Going Green on the ‘net (part 2)

Recycle

Proving that

One person’s rubbish is another’s treasure

the website freecycle.org is a forum where two local people can contact one another to swap what they don’t want for something they do.

It really is that simple!

Going Green on the ‘net (part 1)

Recycle

Web auction sites like eBay are a great way to get rid of your unwanted items.

Make Money and Reduce Landfill

at the same time!

It’s amazing what other people will buy - you may even pick up a little bargain or two yourself ;-)

Sign of the Times … Only 3 Years Late!

Just before the Bank Holiday weekend, four signs were erected on the beach of the outer marina …

The New Signs on the Beach...

These are a much needed, and long-overdue addition to this area of Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour.

Residents have been campaigning for over three years about the need for signs like these to increase public awareness to the potential dangers of the boat lanes and especially the mud which is exposed at low tides…

Review: Introduction to Nautical Archaeology (part 2)

I wrote in a previous post about members of my local dive club participating in an introductory course in marine archaeolgy on 28th April.

That article covered the first 2 parts of the course, whereas this article covers the final part of the course where we all got wet in a local swimming pool to try and translate the stuff we’d learnt in the classroom and on the outdoor, ‘dry’ exercise into practise.

Marina Dive: Focus on SeaSquirt

This is the third post relating to a dive I did in North Marina a few weeks ago and this time I’m going to show you one of the harbour’s most common marine species, although it’s also the one with the funniest name…

Here’s a photo of a couple of them:

Review: Introduction to Nautical Archaeology (part 1)

In previous posts I’ve written about the wreck that has been recently discovered in Norman’s Bay and the plans of the licensee of the wreck to work with my local scuba diving club to research it further.

As part of these plans, five dive club members attended an Introductory course delivered by the Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) on 28th April, at the NAS headquarters in Portsmouth.

The course was split into three parts:

Marina Dive: Focus on Starfish

Following on from a previous post here’s your chance to go underwater and see what’s it’s like in North Harbour.

The photo below shows one of around 30 starfish that I swam over during my dive:

Dolphin Rescue in the Outer Harbour

Here’s something you don’t see very often - in fact its only the second time in the 7+ years I’ve lived here in Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.

It’s may end up being quite a sad tale…

Last time it was a porpoise and this time it’s a dolphin, that has somehow got separated from it’s pod, and has ended up swimming aimlessly in the outer harbour boat channel of Sovereign Harbour.

As you can see from the photo, a lot of wellwishers turned out to watch with their fingers crossed that everything would turn out ok…

Eastbourne’s leading PADI scuba diving club, Planet Divers, were celebrating yesterday at the Annual Achievers Awards, run by the Eastbourne Herald newspaper.

The club’s efforts over the past four years were rewarded by winning the newly created ‘Environment’ award for helping to clear up one of their dive sites, in and around North Harbour of Sovereign Marina.

Marina Dive: Focus on Jellyfish

I went on my first dive of 2007 in the Marina yesterday, and I’d like to share some of my photos with you.

Thought I’d start with something you can see without having to get wet :-)

This time of the year, all areas of Sovereign Harbour are awash with jellyfish like the ones in the picture below:
